Our part of the Skallerud family tree
Inspired by the work my brother, Richard Skallerud, as done so far (see http://www.rdsdesigns.com/2004/), I decided to dig into understanding exactly where we've come from in Norway. This is what I've found so far:
1801 Norwegian Census
My great, great, great, great grandfather Hans Halvorsen, born 1783 in Eidsberg, Norway, found in the census here:

1865 Norwegian Census
There were 2 Skallerud farms in Thrygstad
My great, great great grandfather (Andreas Hansen, b. July 1810 in Eidsberg, Østfold, Norway) is listed as the owner of this farm, listed in 0122 Thrygstad

The 2nd Skallerud farm is in Skiptvet.
He had several children, my great, great grandfather Anton Skallerud (b. January 1848 in Trøgstad, Østfold, Norway) being one of them.
Anton had a son, Henry A. Skallerud born in 1882 in Minnesota.
One interesting mystery is from the 1865 Skallerud Farm census link above. This shows where Anton's father and 3 youngest kids were. Where was Birthe, Hans and Anton, his oldest 3 children? I searched for those born in 1848 (Anton) and found Johan Anton Andreason living in Eidsberg (kind of coincidental?)

So I'm guessing that Johan Anton Andreason is Anton Andreason, my great, great grandfather. Perhaps he was going to school there off the farm and then emigrated to the US instead of returning to the farm? If he emigrated in 1870, he would be 22, a perfect age to start a new life! His older brother, Hans, was 23 when he emigrated in 1868.
Their sister Birthe, immigrated through New York on July 29, 1870 out of Oslo:

Regarding the 2nd farm in Thrygstad, more information is found here:

I wonder if we were related, or if perhaps they were simply renters or family friends?

In 1875 census, there is no longer any record of a Skallerud farm, which, from what I understand, is because this census was only performed in the towns, not on the farms.
In 1900 census, the Skallerud farm in 0122 Trøgstad is recorded again (note city name change from Thrygstad)

Totally different names. Until I learn more, I'm guessing the farm was sold to new owners who would not be related to me.
